A Mother’s Day Celebration

A Mother’s Day Celebration returns to Hampton Coliseum (1000 Coliseum Drive) on Sunday, May 8. Tamela Mann, J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise, Anthony Brown & group therAPy, Kierra Sheard, and Pastor Mike Jr. will be bringing their gospel sounds in a celebration of mothers.

Boo Williams Sportsplex

Boo Williams Sportsplex (5 Armistead Pointe Way) has a full calendar of youth basketball tournaments for 2022. Athletes from across the country will be coming to Hampton to compete for top honors. April events include:

  • April 2-3 – Big Shots Virginia Tipoff
  • April 8-10 – Big Shots Mid-Atlantic Live
  • April 22-24 – NIKE Invitational Girls (also at Hampton Roads Convention Center)
  • April 30-May 1 – Junior Youth Phenom Top 100: Battlegrounds

Tips & Techniques for Retail Security

Staffing shortages mean that retailers may also experience security concerns. During the March Roundtable meeting, Cpl. Quesenberry, Hampton Police Division, provided tips to improve retail security These include:

  • Have a dedicated asset protection or loss prevention specialist
  • Report criminal activity in a timely manner
  • Have a CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) study performed by Hampton Police Division
  • Train sales associates on signs of suspicious behavior
  • Understand your store layout and merchandise positioning
  • Be proactive, not reactive

Community Shred Day

Hampton Roads Educators’ Credit Union (2130 Cunningham Drive) is hosting a Shred Day event on Friday, April 8, from 10:30AM-1PM. Bring your confidential files, bank statements, cancelled checks, etc. to be shredded (Limit 3 bags/banker sized boxes per person). During the event, HRECU will be collecting non-perishable food items or monetary donations for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. For more information, click here.

New Area Code

Hampton Roads will be getting another area code (948) this spring. Existing telephone numbers with a 757 area code won’t change. New lines and services will be assigned the 948 area code. This means you must dial the area code plus telephone number in order to make a call, beginning April 9.

Ribbon Cuttings

5 Star Nutrition, located at 2866 Kilgore Avenue in Peninsula Town Center, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 4. 5 Star Nutrition provides personalized guidance and effective supplements for your sports nutrition, weight loss, and vitamin needs. For more information, click here.

Smoothie Stop Cafe officially opened its second Coliseum Central location with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 25. Located at 106 Coliseum Crossing, Smoothie Stop is a family run business that focuses on producing quality fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies, cold pressed juices, salads and wraps. Summer Youth Employment Program

The City of Hampton Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities is accepting applications from local businesses to serve as host sites for the Summer Youth Employment Program through June 1. The workers’ salaries are paid by the city’s Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities. For more information, click here.
